“The Fast and the Furious”: Technical Consultant Reveals Tricks to Make Cars Faster (YouTube – @craiglieberman)
The Fast and the Furious is one of the most famous franchises in cinema! With many thrilling action scenes featuring fast cars, it’s hard to imagine that in reality, the vehicles are slower than they appear, at least according to Craig Lieberman, technical consultant for the first two films in the saga.
According to Lieberman, some tricks were used to make the cars appear faster than they actually were. In a video, he demonstrated how fast and slow many of them were in the first two films, stating that 90% of the car action scenes in the movies were done at speeds below 100 km/h.

Brian’s Mitsubishi Eclipse, for example, took 16 seconds to complete about 500 meters, while Jessi’s Volkswagen Jetta needed 18 seconds.
To simulate higher speeds, the filmmakers used various tricks such as cables, remote controls, editing, and sound mixing.
Despite these tricks, some cars really stood out for their performance. Dom’s Mazda RX-7, for example, was capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 to 6 seconds.
